About Black Leash
We started this because of the animals, and we have kept it that way.
Black Leash Pet Couriers runs from Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal Triangle, moving pets to where they need to be across South Africa.
Our story
Black Leash started because most pets travel badly. They get moved like freight, handed between drivers, held overnight in places nobody would leave their own dog, and the owner only finds out how it went afterwards.
That seemed like a strange way to treat an animal someone loves, so we did it differently. One vehicle from the first door to the last, two of us on the long runs so the driving gets shared, and an owner who knows where their pet is the whole way.
It takes more care to run a courier business this way. It ’s the only way we were interested in running one.
Our mission
To get every animal we’re trusted with there safely, calmly and on time, and to keep their owner updated enough that the trip is the easiest part of their week.
Our vision
That no South African has to choose between moving their pet and moving them well. Careful transport should be the normal option, not the expensive exception.
What we hold to.
- The animal sets the pace
- If a dog needs another ten minutes before it will settle, it gets another ten minutes. We work around the animal, not the schedule.
- We tell you straight
- If we're running late, you hear it from us first. If a trip isn't right for your pet, we'll say so instead of taking the booking.
- No depots, no transfers
- Your pet stays with us the whole way. Nobody hands them to another company halfway. On long trips there are usually two of us, so the driving gets shared and they're never left alone.
- Careful beats fast
- There are quicker ways to do this job. We don't use them.
Our love for animals
Nobody does this work for the driving. Long trips, early starts and a vehicle that always needs cleaning aren’t anyone’s idea of a good time. The animals are the reason.
It shows in small ways. Waiting on a driveway a few minutes longer so a nervous dog can decide for itself that the vehicle is fine. Keeping a cat’s carrier covered even though it’d be easier to check on her if it wasn’t. Sending the photo nobody asked for, because we know you’re waiting.
We also work with rescues and fosters around Gauteng, because some animals need the trip more than others.
Our commitment to safe transport
Secure, ventilated space sized to the animal. Their own bedding wherever it can travel with them. Trips planned around rest, water and the heat of the day rather than the fastest arrival time. Paperwork stays with the animal. And a message from us at every stop, so you never have to chase us for news.
